You can now sign your child up for our pilot study

Parents can choose to join an 8-week study comparing personalised practice with working through the course in order.

We believe personalised practice helps children learn more. Before we charge anyone, we want to verify that claim properly. So we have built the study that will test it.

How the study works

The study runs for 8 weeks and involves 60 children. If you join, your child first does the usual 12-question check-in. A computer then randomly assigns them to one of two groups, similar to tossing a coin.

  • In one group, the questions are picked for your child based on their answers.
  • In the other group, your child works through the topics in the order the course teaches them, starting with the easier questions in each topic.

Everything else stays identical for both groups. That includes session lengths, break reminders, the daily limit, feedback after each question and your weekly report. Two weeks after the 8 weeks finish, there is one short check-up. Afterwards, every participating child moves on to personalised practice.

Why we use a coin toss

If parents chose, or we did, the groups might differ in ways unrelated to the practice. Random selection is the fairest way to compare them. We also keep P3 and P4 children separate from P5 and P6 children, so each age group ends up evenly split. Once a group is assigned, nobody can change it, including us.

We don't tell you which group your child is in until the study ends. Knowing could influence how families use it, which would make the comparison less reliable.

Joining and leaving

You will find the study invitation on your child's page. Joining takes one tick. It confirms you agree to their practice being used, anonymously, to compare the two approaches. You can leave at any time from the same page, and practice simply carries on as normal.
